Police: Elmhurst woman avoids carjacking attempt

ELMHURST – Elmhurst police are investigating a report of an attempted carjacking Wednesday.

A woman who lives in the 900 block of South Mitchell Avenue reported to police that a man entered her garage as she was pulling in around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to a news release from the Elmhurst Police Department, the woman reversed her vehicle out of the garage when she saw that the man was pointing a gun in her direction and wearing a black face mask.

The man fled after nearly being hit, the release states, and left the scene in a gray four-door sedan with tinted windows.

Elmhurst police said that a similar attempt was made in Westchester a short time later, and the two incidents may be related.
