ELMHURST – IC Catholic Prep is pleased to announce that sophomore Suzy Maloney is the 2017 recipient of the Phyllis K. Wisbrock Service Award Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to a female sophomore at IC in recognition of exemplary service to the school, parish and community.
Suzy is a Knight Ambassador, a member of the Math team, Spanish Club, Student Council, Yearbook staff, and is on the IC Tennis, Basketball and Soccer teams. She is a Eucharistic Minister, volunteers at school math and trivia competitions, assists with the annual Coaches vs Cancer event, and helps collect for Misericordia Candy Days.
Suzy also volunteers for Access Sports every Saturday in the fall and spring. Access Sports is an organization dedicated to providing opportunities for disabled children to play a variety of sports with the help of volunteers. As a “soccer buddy” with Access Sports, Suzy has logged more than 75 hours of her time since sixth grade in order to help bring these children joy through sports. She hopes to become a part of the Access Sports Board to help with fundraising and event planning in the future.
In addition to her extensive volunteer work with Access Sports, Suzy recently joined the ICCP Relay for Life team, Knights Conquer Cancer, to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. Overall, Suzy has accumulated more than 100 hours of service since the start of her freshman year.
The Wisbrock Scholarship was set up in honor of Phyllis K. Wisbrock, who was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Parish and was part of the very first class to graduate from the new Immaculate Conception High School in 1953.
