ELMHURST – The city may be in for some rough weather tonight.
The National Weather Service is warning that there’s a risk of hailstones larger than golf balls and damaging winds from the storms that are currently blowing through the area.
“[Storms] will have the potential to produce large hail, and some storms especially this evening will likely have the potential for producing damaging winds and isolated tornadoes,” the weather service said in an advisory.
The weather warned that quarter-sized hail had already been observed, and a tornado watch – which is much less concerning than a tornado warning – was in effect for all of northeastern Illinois.
The city of Elmhurst issued a release stating that they had crews on standby in case of storm related damage.
“[Crews are] ready to respond in case the city is impacted by the severe weather,” the release stated. “Low-lying areas and inlets have been checked, and several cycles of city street sweeping have been recently completed. Residents can assist the city by helping to keep inlets clear of debris.”
The Elmhurst Titan will monitor the storm as it develops and report if there is any significant damage in Elmhurst. Please send any tips and/or photos to email@example.com.
